Confirmation for Adult Catholics
Accipi signaculum doni Spiritus Sancti.
Here are some frequently asked questions:
Q: What ages may participate in the Confirmation for Adults process?
A: This program is for any baptized Catholic over 18 years of age. If you are not a baptized Catholic, please see our information on Becoming Catholic by clicking here.
Q: I am baptized Catholic, but have not made my first Holy Communion, does that disqualify me from Confirmation preparation?
A: No! If you need to make your First Holy Communion, as well as Confirmation, this formation opportunity will prepare you for both and you will celebrate both at Confirmation in May.
Q: I am married outside of the Catholic Church. Is that a problem?
A: All baptized Catholics must marry according to Catholic form, so if you were married in another faith tradition or by a civil officiant, we will need to bring your marriage into the Church before you may celebrate your Confirmation. You may still join the preparation group as you work towards your Catholic marriage. There are staff members here ready to assist you with your current marital situation. Do not be discouraged or embarrassed. This is not uncommon and we are here for you.
Q: I am divorced, does that disqualify me from being Confirmed?
A: No! If you are divorced and have not married anyone else, you are free to prepare and celebrate your Confirmation.
Q: Will I need a sponsor?
A: Yes! You will need a sponsor who will journey with you as you prepare to be Confirmed and will stand with you when you are Confirmed. There are requirements for the Sponsor, but we will talk about that the first day of our sessions. If you can’t think of anyone to be your Sponsor, our team can help you find one!
Q: What is the time commitment:
A: The Adult Confirmation group meets weekly on Sunday mornings, at 9:00 am in Station 4 for English Classes, and 10:00 am in Seton Hall for Spanish Classes. Our first session for the 2024-2025 program year will be Sunday, September 22 for English classes and September 29 for Spanish classes and we will conclude in May of 2025.
