A marriage certificate is given at the time of contracting marriage in the Catholic Church. In the case a replacement is needed, for whatever the reason, a marriage affidavit is given in place of a marriage certificate when a certificate is requested. An affidavit is a valid form of proof of marriage which is endorsed and authenticated by the parish at which you were married and signed by the current pastor or priest administrator.
