Essential Elements

What is Catholic Spirituality? It is the way of growth in personal holiness. The Second Vatican Council calls all people to holiness. It is not only monks, nuns, and priests who are calld to holiness. All are called! Through baptism, each of us has a priestly identity. We have died with Christ and will rise with Him on the last day. In everything we do, we carry him within us: at work, with family, during moments of suffering, and in our friendships. When we come to Mass, we bring the whole of our experience with us us has a priestly identity. We have died with Christ and risen with him. In everything we do, we carry him with us: work, family, suffering, and friendships. When we come to Mass, we bring that whole experience with us, and we essentially, as a group, place the outside world upon our altar and consecrate it through prayer. Our spirituality is individual but always--through, with and for love--looks to give itself away.
Spirituality is living the mystery of Christ, becoming like him, being filled with grace and the Holy Spirit. It is the science of applying the Gospel to Christian Life. A spiritual person will attempt to make every action and interior thought align with the Gospel. How can I be a Godly employee? How can I be a good spouse? How can I be a parent to my children in the same kind of way that God is a Father to me?
All Catholic Spiritualities are a way of living a life in Christ. Each spirituality is distinct in the aspect of the Mystery of the Lord which they emphasize in his following.
The Spirituality of the Cross invites it's adherents to contemplate, live and transmit Christ as priest and victim. This is at the heart of who we are and what we do.
